Good for projects but lacks resource management depth
We implemented Asana Premium for our project management office overseeing 40+ concurrent construction projects. It excels at task management and project tracking but has limitations for resource management at our scale.
The Timeline view gives our project managers clear visibility into project schedules and dependencies. We can identify bottlenecks early and adjust timelines accordingly. The custom templates ensure consistency across similar project types.
However, the Workload view – crucial for resource planning – requires manual input of team member capacity and doesn’t account for partial allocation across projects. We supplement Asana with a dedicated resource management tool for accurate capacity planning.
Integration with our time tracking system (Harvest) works well, automatically pulling actual hours into Asana for variance analysis. The reporting provides executive visibility into project health, though we export data to Power BI for more sophisticated analytics.
What do you like best?
Timeline view excellent for project scheduling
Templates ensure project consistency
Integration with time tracking tools
Executive reporting provides good visibility
What do you dislike?
Resource management features are basic
Workload view requires manual capacity entry
Advanced reporting requires data export
Mobile app lacks desktop functionality
